PENCH NATIONAL PARK

Nestled across the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, this legendary national park is globally famous for inspiring the English author Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book (1894). Declared as Tiger reserve in 1992 and named after the pristine Pench river that flows through its heart, it has grown to become the most celebrated wildlife safari destinations of Central India. It’s also one of the earliest interstate tiger reserves having rich biodiversity with dense teak forest, grasslands, and riverine habitats.


PENCH HISTORY

1965 – Declared as a Wildlife Sanctuary

1983 – Declared as a National park

1992 – Included under Project Tiger

Pench National Park, now spreads over a vast area of approximately 758 sq.km in Madhya Pradesh and 742 sq.km in Maharashtra. The lifeline of this park, the Pench river flows through its heart dividing the forest into eastern and western halves.

More than 210 species of birds been recorded in Pench, such as Crested serpent eagle, Grey-headed fishing eagle, Short-toed snake eagle, White-eyed Buzzard, Jungle babblers, Jungle owlet, Brown fish owl, Yellow legged green pigeon, Black hooded oriole, Grey nightjar, Indian roller, Common hawk cuckoo, Parakeets, Malabar pied hornbill, etc.

PENCH TIGER SAFARI

Pench National Park can be visited year-round, with each season revealing a different side of the wilderness. October to March is the most pleasant time offering clear skies, comfortable weather, cool nights and minimum rainfall. While April to June, despite being rising temperatures, provide excellent wildlife sightings. Its core zone remains closed during the monsoon (July-September), but the buffer zones are accessible year-round.

Park safari booking open 120 days prior to safari date. Since the number of Jeeps permitted for safaris is limited the tickets get sold out almost immediately.

Peak Season (mid Oct – mid June), Festivals and long holiday weekends get sold out too quickly. We recommend to book your tour 5-6 months well in advance

Carry your ID proofs, used at the time of safari booking with your tour operator and safari planner

Safari Jeeps are well suited for 2-4 guests per vehicle. A park guide and driver/naturalist are mandatory to accompany
