Central India – The heart and soul of Wild India

Spanning across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of Maharashtra, these forests form the heart of our country – Central India. It is these landscapes, that inspired Rudyard Kipling to write The Jungle Book. Deep within its forests the majestic tiger prowls in its domain, sharing his space with leopards, elephants, sloth bears, dholes and a myriad of birds, herbivores and other wild species.

Together the Vindhyachal, Satpura and Maikal mountain ranges form its undulating terrain. They sustain major rivers like Narmada, Tapti, Indravati and Son, nurturing its rich ecological biodiversity. Its ancient tribal communities – Gonds, Baiga’s, Muriyas, Marias and others still live in close harmony with nature, preserving deep knowledge of the natural world, ayurvedic medicines, customs and spiritual culture.

To explore Central India, one needs to walk through its vast geological expanse, unleashing the stories written in its rock paintings, forests and historical monuments.
